MONA VALE — Salvage crews began the removal of a stolen boat from the south end of Mona Vale Beach this afternoon.

The boat, a 9.6 meter Mustang worth upwards of $100,000, had been stolen from Gunnamatta Bay in Port Hacking sometime after 7pm on Sunday night.

The boat was first spotted on Monday morning, with the Westpac Lifesaver Helicopter arriving on scene shortly after at 6:30am. Crew from the Westpac Life Saver Helicopter searched the boat but no one was found onboard.

The salvage operation was still underway when The Sydney Newsdesk left the scene at 3:00pm on Tuesday.

In an unrelated incident earlier in the month, a similar boat was washed ashore on Palm Beach after an engine failure.
